Republican Candidate for Governor, Ken Knuppe, Buffalo Gap, S.D., enjoyed meeting South Dakota citizens from the communities of Vale, White River, Murdo, Kadoka, Red Shirt and Newell recently.

“I have sure enjoyed meeting people from small towns across South Dakota,” Knuppe said. “Everywhere I go I catch up with an old acquaintance and also make some new friends.”

In Vale, Knuppe chatted with locals at a trade show. He visited with folks in White River, Murdo and Kadoka during ‘meet and greet’ events scheduled by his supporters. The Red Shirt School asked Knuppe to speak to student council hopefuls. In Newell, he met with the Guardians of the Constitution.

Knuppe said he visited about a number of issues at the ‘meet and greet’ events. “Some people wanted to talk about education, the budget or reducing the size of government. Others just wanted to visit and tell me about their grandkids, either way it was a fun way to meet a lot of new folks and find out what they are looking for in their next governor,” Knuppe said. “They seemed pleased with my message – limited government and across- the-board cuts to the budget. I really think South Dakotans are looking for a new direction and they are pleased that I’m running for office to offer that. I think folks are relieved to learn that I’m not another politician, I’m an ordinary guy,” said Knuppe.

According to Knuppe, the Guardians of the Constitution were concerned with second amendment rights. “They were glad to hear that I support the right to bear arms. I am a gun owner myself and I believe that, as a society it is our responsibility to teach gun owners to be responsible, not to take away guns from honest people.”

Knuppe enjoyed meeting students at the Red Shirt School who are setting up a student council. “They let me listen to their campaign speeches and they asked me for advice on running for an office. It was really fun and refreshing to see these kids learning about the political process,” said Knuppe.

Knuppe said he plans to be in Faith next week and will spend several days at the Black Hills Stock Show. He will be attending several ‘meet and greet’ events in Eastern South Dakota in February.
